Jökulsárlón tour prices

The ticket price is only the start. The boat, the meals and the pickup are often extra, and they add up. Here is what a day at the lagoon really costs.

How much is the boat ride, in ISK and USD?

The amphibian costs ISK 7,100 per adult and the zodiac ISK 16,600, booked direct with the operator. At about 122 ISK to the dollar, that is $58 and $136.

The 2026 prices from icelagoon.is:

TicketISKAbout USD
Amphibian, adult (13+)7,100$58

Amphibian, groups of 12+6,800 each$56
Zodiac, adult (13+)16,600$136
Zodiac, child 10 to 128,300$68

The rate used is the mid-market rate of about 121.7 krónur to the dollar on 15 October 2026 (CurrencyBeacon); it moved between about 120 and 126 over the summer. Pay in krónur if your card offers a choice. Letting the terminal convert to dollars usually costs more.

Is the boat-included day trip worth the extra?

In peak summer, yes. It costs $143 more than the same operator's day without the boat, against about $58 for an amphibian ticket bought yourself.

The day trip with boat tour and the Glacier Lagoon day trip are both Reykjavik Excursions, both 14.5 hours, both 1 hour 20 minutes at the lagoon. The difference is a reserved seat on an approximately 30-minute boat tour. Roughly $85 of the gap is the price of not queueing.

In July and August that can be worth it: boats fill, and the stop is short. Outside the peak, buy the cheaper day and the ticket. On the 2-day tour the boat option costs $50 more, less than the ticket at the lagoon, which makes that one easy.

What do day trip prices include?

Transport, a guide, and the stops. Meals, the boat and tips are extra; hotel pickup costs a little more on some tours.

  • Always: the coach or minibus from Reykjavík and back, an English-speaking guide, Wi-Fi on most buses, and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
  • Pickup: the from-price is often for the bus terminal. On the Glacier Lagoon day trip, hotel pickup is $195 against $185 from BSÍ. On Gray Line it is about $197 against $184.
  • Parking: tour buses don't pass the fee to you; BusTravel lists parking fees as included.
  • Not included: lunch, dinner, the boat, and tips. Tipping isn't expected in Iceland.

Budget about the price of two café meals for the day. The stops are at Freysnes, Vík or a roadhouse, and the lagoon café sells soup and coffee.

How much is parking at Jökulsárlón?

ISK 1,110 per day for a car with up to five seats, about $9, paid in the Parka app or at the machine. Larger vehicles pay more.

Vatnajökull National Park started charging an area fee at Jökulsárlón in June 2023, at ISK 1,000. Its current price list shows ISK 1,110 for a car with five seats or fewer, valid until midnight on the day you pay, so you can come and go. If you paid the fee at another park area the same day, such as Skaftafell, you get 50% off the second one.

Fjallsárlón, 10 km west, has free parking. Entry to the lagoon itself is free for everyone.

What do 2-day and 3-day tours cost per hour at the lagoon?

More in total, less per minute at the ice. The 2-day tour gives you 90 minutes at the lagoon plus a glacier hike and a hotel night for $639.

A hotel night on the south coast in summer costs a good share of the difference on its own. Vardan, on the 3-day tour in August 2026, wrote it was "an incredible value for the money. I honestly would have spent about the same amount just on accommodations in Reykjavik".

What do activities at the lagoon cost?

The glacier hike is $149, the ice cave tour $157 and Fjallsárlón ice floating $126. None includes transport from Reykjavík.

  • The glacier hike: 4.5 hours, about two hours on Breiðamerkurjökull with crampons, helmet and harness, lunch included, 12 people at most.
  • The ice cave tour: 3 hours, super jeep from the lagoon car park to a natural ice cave, helmet and crampons provided. Ages 8 and up.
  • Fjallsárlón ice floating: 1.5 hours in a flotation suit, hot drink after. Booked direct it is ISK 15,900, about $131.

All three meet at the lagoons, about 390 km from Reykjavík by the ice cave listing's count. Pair them with a night nearby or the 3-day tour, which includes the ice cave.

How can you save money on a Jökulsárlón trip?

Take the cheapest day trip, buy the amphibian ticket yourself outside July and August, meet the bus at the terminal, and bring your own food.

  • Pick on minutes at the lagoon, not the price alone. The $185 Glacier Lagoon day trip gives 20 minutes more at the ice than the $184 Gray Line day.
  • Skip hotel pickup if you are near BSÍ: it saves $10 to $13.
  • Kids: under-6s ride the amphibian free; day tours have youth fares from 6.
  • Groups: 12 or more pay ISK 6,800 each for the amphibian.
  • Book early, cancel free: every tour here refunds in full up to 24 hours before.

Planning winter instead? The boats are off, which saves the ticket, and an ice cave takes its place: Jökulsárlón in winter.

The best-rated day for under $200: 1 hour 20 minutes at the lagoon, then Diamond Beach.
